This interesting tidbit came from the first paragraph of a front page New York Times article.

"As soon as swine flu vaccinations start next month, some people getting them will drop dead of heart attacks or strokes, some children will have seizures and some pregnant women will miscarry."

The writer's next paragraph then states that these supposed side effects of the vaccination are not in fact side effects at all. In fact, these are the normal side effects of a placebo injection.

Going to the chapel and I'm gonna get married...

Well, it's now official we are getting married. June 26, 2010 for all those who need to clear their calendars.

American Airlines e-mailed me today in regard to their special offers. Here's one for the books: "American Airlines: 30,000 miles gets you 30,000 feet!" I tell you, the miles I have better not turn into feet!

How old...?

I was reading a magazine article the other day and it ended with a question from a famous philosopher, which stated, "How old would you be if you didn't know how old you were?"

Good question! In a time like today's world, it is near impossible (at least in the U.S.) to not have some idea of how old you are, even if you may not know your birthday.

Thinking about answering the question really got me thinking. I would say, I would think that I was about 30 when it comes to mental abilities, probably about 40 when it comes to physical health what with my herniated disk and shoulder problems that don't even allow me to run or walk much any more (not to mention getting stiff after only a 45 minute car ride to school); however, when it comes down to it, I think socially i live my life as if I were (and still want to be) about 21 or 22. By pure looks, i would say i probably look about 24, which is two years younger than i actually am (although I think I look my age, I still get carded and when other grad students ask me how old i am they always think i am a few years younger than I actually am, which is nice).

So, how old are you?

American Idol 8

Although Kris Allen won (go AK!), I was still (and am still) rooting for Danny. How can you resist the blusey voice, sad backstory, and message of hope? Can't wait until he comes out with an album, actually both should have a pretty good album. As a side note, I am also waiting for Megan Joy's first album. Although I've watched each season, this is the first time I actually am going to listen to the music these people make. Can't wait for Season 9 (to AI producers: get rid of Kara - I hate her!!).

On a lazy summer day, exploring the Meramec River (above) - a bit swollen from spring rains.

And, exploring the old quarry, which the Lions have now made into a hiking trail. To think that we used to cross the railroad tracks and tromp through the woods to get to this place. Now they have a trail. That effectively got rid of the drinking spot that many young teens used this spot for. See how community upkeep can keep delinquency down? (or at least out of sight).
